Zillow and Trulia Merge

Two Powerhouse Firms Join Forces

If you believe that Realtor.com is the ONLY online real estate website, you're in for a surprise. The two largest real estate portals in the U.S. have joined to begin their domination of the online real estate market.

Zillow and Trulia will remain separate (online at least and for now at least). But both will be working under the Zillow Group umbrella. The 3.5 Billion dollar deal will change the real estate landscape, but how?

For Realtors

For real estate agents and brokers throughout the U.S. the Zillow and Trulia merger will bring about a few changes...

  • A long time complaint from many realtors is the poor quality of data in both Zillow and Trulia. They tend to lag behind the more updated listings in Realtor.com. But this merger should lead to faster updates and improved quality of information on the property for sale.
  • For real estate agents who haven't fully grasped the use of technology in their work, well, it's going to get a little worse for you. More and more real estate clients will be using websites like Zillow and Trulia to search for properties. Whether it's to research purchasing a home or researching what's been sold to prepare for selling a home, Internet users are savvy enough to do much of the legwork themselves.

For Consumers

  • There's no doubt that the more information available, to both buyers and sellers, the more educated the consumer will be. This helps not only the consumer, but the realtor as well. Instead of showing a client 30 homes, the list (and time) can be drastically reduced simply by going online and eliminating the properties that don't match the client's "list" of requirements.
  • Increased control over the decision making process when it comes to buying or selling a home. More data (well, as long as it's accurate data) leads to better decision making and everyone wants to make decisions that are as well informed as possible.
